1. Doubling Down On What You’re Good At
What is something you’re really good at?
I suck at a lot of stuff.
I can’t sing, I can’t dance, and I sure as hell can’t act.
But there’s one thing I think I’m okay at – and I’m doubling down on it.
That’s writing.
I never truly enjoyed writing until I started this blog and newsletter.
But when you feel yourself actually getting better at something, it becomes much more enjoyable to do.
It’s great to try new things, I preach the importance of that all the time.
But is there something in your life that you would truly excel at if you started dedicating more time towards it?
2. The Importance of Self-Respect
Have you ever met someone in person who acts completely different to what they do on social media?
We live in a world where impressing people on social media seems to be more important than impressing yourself.
People have forgotten the importance of self-respect.
Doing things to get validation from other people usually offsets the respect that flows inward.
We do this without realising that the respect we have for ourselves directly correlates to the respect others have for us.
Put simply: When you’re someone worth respecting, others will respect you.
A good way to gauge this is by taking note of how you feel when you’re alone.
Do you enjoy your own company?
If not, then something has to change.
3. Choosing Mario
“It’s my choice – it shouldn’t concern you,” my nephew.
I spent this weekend with my family.
Of course, that meant playing Mario Kart with my four-year-old nephew.
I picked Toad – like I always do.
And after scrolling through characters for about 30 seconds, he finally landed on (and picked) boring old Mario.
I told him what I thought of it and encouraged him to choose someone slightly more interesting.
To which he replied, “it’s my choice – it shouldn’t concern you.”
I literally put my controller down and hugged him, I was that proud.
Then I picked it back up and absolutely wiped the floor with him (seriously, I lapped him).
But man, isn’t it wonderful how intelligent little ones can be?
