Welcome to the Mind Fuzz newsletter, a recap of three things that are on my mind this week.
1. Questioning what’s out there
Do you believe in alien life? Well I always have, and as much of a joke as I’m sure The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy is supposed to be, it still makes me wonder what could be out there.
This book also puts into perspective just how little we know about the world. I mean, most of us probably know less than 0.001% of information available to us on this planet, let alone the other 700 quintillion planets estimated to be in the universe (yes that’s really what scientists estimate).
If you ever need your life or your everyday problems put into perspective, just go outside at night and look up at the stars. We are so tiny.
2. Wading through icy lakes
During the week I was wading through an icy lake, looking down at my fluorescent white skin and thinking how incredibly fortunate I am to live somewhere warm.
I’m at the end of a four-month backpacking trip through Europe (finishing off in the UK) and will be flying back home to Australia the day this newsletter goes live.
This trip has taught me one thing – vitamin D deficiency is real. It’s given me an appreciation for the strength of the Australian sun that I’m sure I’ll never forget.
If you’re reading this during the day and the sun is out, go and enjoy it for five minutes.
3. Remembering the importance of deep work
“The magic you’re looking for is in the work you’re avoiding,” Dipen Parmar.
This quote sums up the biggest revelation I’ve had recently. That feeling of fulfilment after completing something difficult, whether it be a hard run or writing a blog post that’s taken you hours, is unparalleled.
It’s easy to go through life half-assing everything and doing just enough to get by, but do it for long enough and see how fulfilling your life is.
A closing question for you
How often do you get into a flow state whilst working? Is there any way you could make this happen more often?
