Volume 21: Sunset Pondering, Joy Of Missing Out & Love and Hate

Welcome to the Mind Fuzz newsletter, a recap of three things that are on my mind this week.

1. Sunset Pondering

Every sunset is a day closer to death.

Sheesh…

Bit morbid for a Sunday, isn’t it?

You guys should know by now how often I think about death.

And I think doing so is especially poignant whilst watching the sun set.

That day that just went by, did you actually live it?

Or were you a passenger in a life that you’re supposed to be driving?

I think, sadly, most of us are passengers.

I have been for most of my life.

But if you recognise this fact, every day, then it’s bound to start annoying you.

And when it annoys you, you’re more likely to change it.

Next time you watch a sunset, imagine it being your last.

See how that affects the rest of your week.

2. Joy Of Missing Out

Forget FOMO, it’s time to start embracing JOMO.

The joy of missing out.

We need to get comfortable with the tranquillity of being disconnected.

You’re not missing out on anything.

In fact, I’d argue the opposite.

When you’re wishing you were somewhere else, doing something more exciting, you’re robbing yourself of the one thing you actually have – the present moment.

You’re wasting your energy wishing for things you don’t have.

If you really want it, do what you have to do to get it.

Chances are, it won’t make your present moment better anyway.

The trick to that?

Learning to love what you’ve already got.

3. Love & Hate

“There’s no one I disapprove of more or root for more than myself.”

You should be your own biggest fan.

And your own biggest critic.

Finding balance between the two?

That sh*t’s hard.

I’m convinced there’s a direct correlation between the respect others have for you, and the level of standards you hold for yourself.

It’s so easy to tell when someone respects themselves.

We all have negative self-talk, that’s the critic inside of us – it’s normal.

But to become our own biggest fan… that is something you have to work for.

To become so proud of yourself and the person you are that it crowds out those negative thoughts.

Again, that comes by doing hard, uncomfortable things.

Which seems to be a common ground in the space.

A closing question for you

What hard things have you done to make yourself proud this week?

He used to be a journalist, then he got bored. Now he writes about random stuff on the internet.
