Welcome to the Mind Fuzz newsletter, a recap of three things that are on my mind this week.
1. Expectations
These past couple of weeks have reminded me of something I often forget.
Things tend to come into your life when you least expect them to.
I’m talking experiences.
Joy.
Tribulations.
And, in this case, other people.
You can never truly be ready for what shows up on your doorstep.
I guess that’s what can make it so challenging.
But that’s also what makes it so exciting.
Going to bed, knowing your world could change when you wake up, even if it’s just for a bit.
I’m slowly learning to stop expecting.
Because life seems to have a funny way of making things happen, with or without my input.
2. Intentional Energy
This week I had an overwhelming feeling of joy when thinking about the people in my life.
I’m incredibly intentional about who I choose to surround myself with.
Having real friends who you can truly trust is life changing (I’ve experienced life without this).
You only get to this point by weeding out those who you can’t.
This is uncomfortable at the start, but your energy is a finite resource.
Stop wasting it on people who don’t deserve it.
Give it to those who do.
3. Mundane Serenity
“The mind’s requirements are satisfied by doing what we should, and by the calm it brings us.”
Marcus Aurelius – Meditations
I wrote about anxiety in this week’s article – this is an extension of that.
I’ve been finding serenity in the mundane recently.
Returning to routine and creativity seems to bring me this overwhelming sense of calm.
Simply doing what needs to be done is a great way to return to the present.
When I’m folding my washing, or cooking a meal… I’m just there.
Not worrying.
Not overthinking.
Just there.
Being just there is nice.
Being everywhere sucks.
