Welcome to the Mind Fuzz newsletter, a recap of three things that are on my mind this week.
1. Transcendence
Isn’t it crazy how art transcends generations?
I randomly stumbled across a song from 1979 (You Are, I Am by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band) and noticed a large part of it had been sampled in one of my favourite Kanye West songs (So Appalled).
It’s a cool reminder that almost all creation is inspired by something that came before it.
Almost anything can be used as inspiration when looked at through a creative lens.
And I think some of the best artists, musicians, and writers have the ability to draw this inspiration from sources that most people wouldn’t even look twice at.
2. Expectations
A cheat code to fulfilment:
Keeping high expectations for yourself, and low expectations for others.
Not a pessimistic view of the people around you, but more of a realistic view pertaining to what you can actually control.
You can only control the things you do and the way you act, so high expectations are justified in that sense.
But you can’t control what others say or do, and expecting too much is usually what leads to disappointment.
3. Happiness
“What good is happiness to me, If I’ve to wield it carefully?
Fontaines D.C. – Jackie Down The Line
This could be interpreted in many ways, but I ask you this.
When you feel truly happy, is there a part of you that knows it’s fleeting, and you’ll eventually return to baseline (whatever that is)?
I feel like this a lot.
Not a bad thing, I guess, but more so the nature of highs and lows.
Imagine how great happiness would be if we didn’t have to wield it carefully?
Love you all, and thanks for reading as always x
