Volume 57: Bleached Hair, Forest Bathing & Defining Life

Welcome to the Mind Fuzz newsletter, a recap of three things that are on my mind this week.

1. Bleached Hair

I bleached my hair a couple of weeks ago.

It went horribly.

First it turned orange, then I decided to do it again and I burned my scalp.

It taught me two things…

The first – don’t bleach your hair twice within 24 hours you absolute moron Jack.

The second – that identity-altering thing you’ve been scared to commit to because you’re worried what people will think…

No one gives a sh*t.

“Woah, your hair’s blonde.”

“Yep.”

And so, life continues.

Why did I think it would be any other way?

Remember friends, no one is thinking about you, and it’s amazing.

2. Forest Bathing

I went forest bathing in a bamboo forest this week.

I wrote about Shinrin-yoku ages ago (the Japanese art of forest bathing), but I forgot how truly healing it was.

This is more than a walk in nature, this is full-on immersion and stillness in something much bigger than ourselves (or the very thing that we often forget we’re a part of).

I’m encouraging you this week to find a forest or a Japanese garden somewhere near you, and to fully immerse yourself.

I also highly recommend the book Forest Bathing by Qing Li if you want to learn more about forest bathing and the healing benefits of trees and nature.

3. Defining Life

“The goal is to be able to say no to anyone or anything, and still live the life I want.”

Jack Waters

I redefined my life goal this week.

I’d like to tell you I’m close to it, but not quite yet.

I think it’s good to remind yourself of the overarching goal that determines your everyday actions and attitude towards life.

For me, knowing I will be able to attain that in the future is what helps me do the things I don’t really want to do in the present.

Define your life goal and keep it simple (aim for under 25 words).

Are you close?

He used to be a journalist, then he got bored. Now he writes about random stuff on the internet.
